Burgener Nebulizers have been in production for over 15 years. During that time we have received many verbal thanks for their performance and how they help the labs run more effectively with less effort than with other nebulizers. Following are some written notes related to our newer models. Written notes are rare, and much appreciated. If you wish to send us one, we would be pleased to add it to our list.

Tom:
I recently ordered the Burgener T2100 workhorse nebulizer for my Leeman Profile ICP from Sherba Analytical. I have tried many different brands of nebulizers before and had not much luck with them. Installing the Burgener was a breeze setting up and basically used the same setting I had with the existing Hybrid nebulizer I was using. I must say I was hesitant about changing the nebulizer, but I was having difficulties with wash out times and stability with the one I was using.

When peaking Mn with the Hybrid nebulizer, I was only getting about 862,000 counts for 10 ppm Mn. Now with the T2100 I am getting close to 3,000,000 counts for 10ppm Mn. With the increased sensitivity, my detection limit has also improved dramatically. Some elements like Ag, Na, W were taking the instrument as long as 30 minutes to wash out. With this T2100, wash out time was only 15-30 seconds max. That alone is worth the change and has helped get samples out faster to clients.
I would recommend the Burgener T2100 to anybody looking for better performance from their instrumentation.

Fortunately for us at the Boeing Environmental Lab for the Integrated Defense Systems, Chris Sanders gave us his monthly call on new items from CPI. He mentioned the Burgener T2100 Nebulizer and it's capabilities and, wouldn't you know it, we were having problems with the GemCone Nebulizer on our PE 3000 radial view ICP.

Up to now we had been "plugging along" with a "If it ain't broke...leave it alone" attitude using the same nebulizer set up for ..... who knows how long? We started having problems with RSD's on samples and inconsistent results on our QC's. We woke our trusty PE repair man so he could "pay us" ( actually the other way around) a visit to try to solve the problem, but to no avail. And then Chris calls us with a deal we couldn't refuse.

With the Burgener Nebulizer, we have increased our sensitivities up to 30% and vastly improved the RSD's ( well below 0.5% on low intensities). We have been analyzing high TDS samples (1000 to 5000 range) and continue to have steady results. We have been very impressed and question why did we hesitate? A "hard to impress" believer,

Note on the Graphite Mira Mist HS

Dear Mr. Burgener,

I wish to express our gratitude for your help in improving the functions of our HP 4500 ICP-MS.

As you know, originally tried the PTFE version of the Mira Mist nebulizer, but because our spray chamber is mounted at a slant from the nebulizer downwards, we experienced some problems from droplets of previous solutions travelling down the barrel of the nebulizer onto the tip and into the spray of the of the current sample. This resulted in cross contamination of sample results.

You immediately sent us the flattened nose graphite version that allows the drops to fall away from the spray of the current solution. We were then able to achieve drastic improvements in several areas over the cross flow and Meinhard type nebulizers previously installed on this equipment.

Stability and sensitivity improved as we were able to reduce the RSD% from 4 plus percent down to less than 2 percent across the mass spectrum. Background counts are commonly in the single digit from pervious double digit levels. Mass tuning is exact, although it was not off very much previously - still it improved. Previously, we were unable to drive the oxide levels much below 1.5% -- now we commonly achieve levels in the 0.5% range. Doubly charged ion levels that were constantly in the 4 to 5 percent range are now kept well below 3% and usually closer to 2%. Finally, we were able to increase the run time between instrument maintenance such as cleaning the cones. This latter is due to the lower sample introduced into the plasma. However, the effectiveness of that lower sample introduction rate has a disproportionately greater beneficial influence on the whole system. I have included a copy of a recent tune demonstrating most of the improvements discussed.

Thank you,

Ken Gawehn

"We are using the Mira Mist for biological (blood and hair) essential elements and heavy metals analysis. The Mira Mist nebulizer has an excellent mist, very fine and uniform. We are using it since June and it's performance is excellent at the moment and it was not necessary for any adjustment or maintenance. It's mist is exactly the same as the very first day."
